The National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) is the trade association representing all American music publishers and their songwriting partners. The NMPA's mission is to protect and advance the interests of music publishers and songwriters in matters relating to the domestic and global protection of music copyrights.
During the NMPA’s Annual Meeting at New York’s Lincoln Center on June 15, 2022, NMPA President & CEO David Israelite outlined the NMPA’s newest initiative to protect songwriters: cease and desist applications who provide unlicensed music to their users and execute a plan of action to combat music infringement within the global app marketplace. He also announced that Songclip will be the NMPA’s strategic partner in facilitating music licensing and compliance among the app marketplace. READ MORE ABOUT IT HERE.
Music infringement has been rampant among applications, and with a growing app economy, it makes sense that music piracy has been on the rise. One reason apps don’t go through the licensing process is because music licensing is notoriously expensive, complicated and timely.
Yet, music has become an integral feature for consumers, especially across social apps. Since there’s been little-to-no monitoring and enforcement to date, many start-ups decide it’s worth the risk.
One feature that all of the most popular social platforms have in common is music. It has become a consumer’s expectation to be able to upload their photos and videos with their favorite music in the background.
As more apps enter the app stores, more niche social platforms gain traction and new creator tools servicing the creator economy develop, a scalable solution for accessing music rights arises. Enter, Songclip.
Songclip works in partnership with the NMPA, as well as with all the major rights-owners and more than 7,500 independent licensors. We’ve created a system to democratize music licensing and provide access to music for companies of all shapes and sizes. Songclip offers various content and technology packages to solve for and fit within the budget of a startup or a Fortune 500; all are welcome.
The Songclip API handles all the tech lifts of content delivery, rights mapping, usage reporting, royalty payment administration and end-user analytics, while ensuring that all music is being accounted for and IP owners are getting paid.
Songclip not only provides access to all required licenses for most use cases, but also services the technological and reporting requirements of the industry, all in one. See how we compare to other companies here.
Companies like TikTok and Facebook have spent small fortunes on licensing costs, and while music isn’t free, Songclip offers the easiest and most affordable way to integrate compliant music as a feature (or as an experience) into developing digital platforms.
